Erica Larsen
Since graduating from ACAD in 2000 and moving to
the West Coast I have continued to explore painting as a mode of cultural criticism
and discourse. As aspects of my approach to creating work have changed many of
my themes surrounding issues of desire, consumption, and waste have maintained
their continuity. My recent series of still life paintings depict garage
sales, thrift stores, and discarded household items. True to their sources,
each piece is a collage of non-traditional materials and techniques that
challenge the viewers’ concept of painting.

Currently, I have been enjoying taking "found" location,
contemporary photographic still life's of whatever I feel like taking
pictures of...luckily, it happens that they fit into stories and
themes as I am often drawn to similar styles and feels within places,
spaces and objects, creating a few different cohesive photographic
bodies of work. I often return and re-shoot a specific space to be
sure I have found the feel I am after. As a parallel/flip side, I
am also currently enjoying heavily planning and mixing fashion and
art together for a different type of 'creative' photographic work.
