Since graduating from ACAD in 2000 and moving to the West Coast I have continued to explore painting as a mode of cultural criticism and discourse. My recent series of still life paintings depict garage sales, thrift stores, and discarded household items. True to their sources, each piece is a collage of non-traditional materials and techniques that challenge the viewers’ concept of painting.

Jack Dylan has been active as a visual artist working in the independent music scene for the past three years. Mary Porter is a Halifax-born, Toronto-based emerging visual artist. Her practice is interdisciplinary and rooted strongly in painting and drawing. Her work over the last five years has been principally interested in investigating the built environments of the cities she has lived in as a way to understand the culture that created them. She has shown her work in various cities across Canada in group, two-person, and solo exhibition. Her work will be included in the upcoming Magenta publication Carte Blanche, Vol. 2: Painting. She has also received several awards, including a Canada Graduate Scholarship from SSHRC and a Toronto Arts Council grant.
